Sunrise 1 - 9 October 2007 - Phase dedicated to Public Bodies
A short phase, called ‘PreSunrise Period’ preceded the actual commencement of the 1st Sunrise Period. During the PreSunrise period, governments (through GAC representatives) were eligible to submit lists of domain names they wished to reserve for themselves. At the end of this period, governments or relevant bodies may “activate” (i.e. register) domains from the Reserved Names list compiled in the Pre-Sunrise. Activations must be procured through .ASIA Accredited Registrars.
Sunrise 2 - 9 October 2007 -Phase dedicated to owners of registered trademarks and of marks that are still being validated. The mark doesn't necessarily have to be valid in an Asian country. This may also be an Italian national mark or an international or communitarian one. Documentation attesting to the right to registration must be submitted along with the relevant documentation and data requested for registration.
During this phase the relevant Authority will accept all applications as if they had been submitted and received at the same time. Domains for which only one application has been positively assessed will be allocated to the relevant applicant. If more than one valid application has been submitted for the same domain name, the domain name will be allocated via an auction.
This phase includes another three phases:
Sunrise 2a) 9 October 2007 - 30 October 2007 Holders of trademarks registered and requested before 16/03/2004 and used within the category they were registered for. The domain name must correspond to the mark.
Sunrise 2b) 13 November 2007 - 31 January 2008- Holders of trademarks registered and requested before 06/12/2006. The requested domain must correspond to the mark;
Sunrise 2c) 13 November 2007 - 31 January 2008 - Owners of registered trademarks fulfilling the same requirements as those requested during Sunrise 2a or 2b and wishing to register their mark followed or preceded by names relevant to the category this belongs to.
Sunrise 3 - 13 November 2007 - 31 January 2008 - Companies registered in the Asia-pacific region before 6 December 2006 wishing to register a .asia domain corresponding to their company name. Documentary evidence attesting to the right to registration will have to be provided.
The Sunrise 3 has now been extended as follows:
- Acronyms (eg. Andrew, Ben @ Carol Ltd. can request registration of abc.asia). If the acronym is not included in the company registration document, the Authority may request documentary evidence of its use
- The location can be omitted (e.g. ABC Beijing Company Limited can request abc.asia)
- Transliteration is accepted during this phase (both for marks and company names)
- Marks having a tld as a suffix are also accepted during this phase
- Domain names that were allocated to an applicant after a past dispute
During this phase the relevant Authority will accept all applications as if they had been submitted and received at the same time. At the end of the sunrise period registrations will be open as follows:
Landrush - 20 February - 12 March 2008 - Anyone fulfilling the major requirement will be eligible to apply for a .asia domain. In this case as well, applications will be assessed by a Validation Agent. An auction will be held to allocate domains requested by more than one applicant.
GoLive: from 26 March 2008 in poi: after the Landrush, a new phase will commence during which all applications will be processed on a first come first served basis. However, applications will still be assessed to verify fulfilment of the major requirement. In the case of false of incorrect information provided for registration, the domain name will be cancelled.
